VISTABOOKS--titles by author

VISTABOOKS as the parent company of VistaBooks Encore has for over 50 years (since 1972) been providing reprints of accounts of historical episodes and periods largely centered on events--now historic--that occurred where there are now national and state parks and museums. For intstance, there is Theodore Roosevelt's story of ranching in North Dakota, John Muir's tales of Yosemite and Yellowstone, Bat Masterson's history of gunfighters, Thomas Moran's and Frederic Remington's illustrations, and recounts of emigrants and explorers as well as descriptions of lighthouses and the early life-saving services plus whaling. (Each title is described below, with links to sample illustrations; an overall review of sample authors and illustrations can be viewed here.

The VistaBooks program has been to make available accounts of persons involved in now-historic events or have reported on them near the time the events occurred--"first-person history" in many cases--and to include period engravings and photographs as historical illustrations.
Some 335,000 copies of these titles have been and are being sold--mainly to park visitor centers and museums; most have not been available in general markets. Here we provide access to these titles for all. Although these VistaBooks history reprints are new books they do present history that likely is of interest to "encore" fans.

Each title includes a preface to set the context of the time and significance of the period involved, most of them written by park historians and natutalists familiar with the stories.
